Funding for OptoNutrics

by the 2018 Bordeaux Emergence financial support

The 2018 Bordeaux Emergence call has funded 10 innovative and high risk research projects from Bordeaux University. One of these projects is OptoNutrics, from NutriNeuro lab. The objective of OptoNutrics is to develop an innovative technology aiming at tackling the action of nutrients on neuronal function. The project associates 2 institutes of chemistry from Bordeaux, LCPO (Laboratoire de Chimie des Polymères Organiques, Pr. Sébastien Lecommandoux) and ISM (Institut des Sciences Moléculaires, Dr. Nathan McClenaghan). With OptoNutrics project, we will develop photoactivable particles allowing the controlled release of nutrients in brain tissue to analyse their effects on neuronal transmission and plasticity. This initial founding is dedicated to the setting up of OptoNutrics. If we succeed to bring a tangible proof of concept, this call will open to the funding of a PhD fellowship, to continue the development of OptoNutrics and its use by interested research units in the world.
